OET




The Occupational English Test is the test for healthcare professionals. 

Dentistry, dietetics, podiatry, radiography, speech pathology, medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, optometry, pharmacy, physiotherapy, , and veterinary science can take OET test.

It has following 4 parts
Listening
Reading
Writing
Speaking

It has grading system: A B C+ C

Total score of each part that is listening reading writing and speaking is 500.


You will be given A grade if you score 450 or above.

If you get score between 350-440 you will be graded as B

Similarly, 300-340 will be granted C+

And below 300 is C.


                        Please note B grade in OET is equivalent to 7 Bands in IELTS                   



Now why OET?

Although it is an expensive test but.
Writing part is easy.
Speaking is candidate friendly.
Listening and reading are more or less same like IELTS.

OET LISTENING SUBSET

OET Listening sub-set  has three parts. 



Part A


In this part of the OET Listening test, you’ll hear two different extracts.  In each extract, a health professional is talking to a patient.

Total number of answers you have to write are 24.

Total of 30 seconds will be given to read the extracts.



Part B 



In this part of the OET Listening test, you’ll hear six different extracts. In each extract, you’ll hear people talking in a different healthcare setting. 

Each extract will be having one, 3 optional question and you have to choose the best.

You will be given some time before each extract.


Part C 


In this part of the Listening test, you’ll hear two different extracts.  In each extract, you’ll hear health 
professionals talking about aspects of their work.

Each extract will be having six, 3 optional questions and you have to choose the best.

You will be given 90 seconds before each extract to start.





OET READING SUBSET


OET reading has 3 parts.



Part A 



It is expeditious reading task.
Duration: 15 minutes 
Total question 20 minutes consists of matching, sentence completion and short answer questions.



Part B 



Short 6 texts of almost 150 words.
Each text has one three optional MCQs.
Duration for both Part B: 45 minutes


Part C



Two texts of 800 words.
Each has eight four optional MCQS. 
Duration for both Part B: 45 minutes






OET WRITING SUBSET


In OET writing only 1 task is given.

In OET writing You may be given a referral letter, discharge or transfer letter.

Total Duration of this writing task is 45 minutes

Total words: 180-200 words

This writing task should be written in letter form







OET SPEAKING SUBSET


Speaking consists of 3 sections and it consists of interlocutor and candidate.

This test is like daily life conversation between patient and doctor in OPDs

All you have to do is to be natural, stick to points given in clue card

The entire test is almost 20 minutes.






Part A 


Initially, there is a warm-up session in which there is a general conversation between candidate and examiner.

The following questions are asked. these questions are not marked and their duration is 3 to 4 minutes.

 


Part B 



A role card will be given to the candidate and examiner.
The role card is a half-cut piece of paper.
2 minutes will be given to see the role-play card.
The interlocutor takes the role of a patient or his/her attendant.
While that of the doctor's role is done by the candidate.
Duration 5-6 minutes.


 

Part C 



A role card will be given to the candidate, and examiner.
2 minutes will be given to see the role-play card.
The interlocutor takes the role of patient or his/her attendant.
While that of the doctor's role is done by the candidate.
Duration 5-6 minutes.
