Candidate: My name is Dr. XYZ. I am the treating doctor for today. May i confirm your name and age please.Examiner: Doctor my name is XYZ. I am 88 years old.
Candidate: XYZ. So you came with burning and difficulty in passing urine. We have sent your urine sample for a complete examination. As you told in the history that you have had that problem in the past also. Do you have any idea what is happening with you?
Examiner: Doctor I think I have recurrent urinary tract infections.
Candidate: Yes Mr. XYZ you are right. Would you mind, if I ask you a few further questions?
Examiner: Sure, you can ask a doctor.
Candidate: Can you please tell me about your diet?
Examiner: I eat quite well. I take vegetables and fruits.
Candidate: How much water do you take daily?
Examiner: I drink two glasses of water and two cups of coffee daily.
Candidate: Ok that is fine. Can you please tell me how much exercise you do daily?
Examiner: I walk 15-30 minutes daily.
Candidate: You have quite healthy life style. Do you have any idea what is happening with you?
Examiner: No Doctor.....
Candidate: I understand. Let me explain this to you. During my explanation, if you have any questions you can stop me in between. Urinary tract infection is caused by unhygienic ways and by voiding urine. All you have to do is to adopt a good hygiene and one more important thing is "double voiding" that is you have to empty your bladder full and then have to wait for a few seconds and try emptying your bladder again So Do you have any concerns?
Examiner: Can you please tell me the treatment options. Will I be right after using it?
Candidate: I appreciate your concern. This must be a very stressful situation for you, but let me reassure you that you are in safe hands. I will prescribe you Trimethoprim 300mg daily for three days. You will also be commenced on low-dose nitrofurantoin for a three months course.
Examiner: But doctor will it cure it?
Candidate: Yes Mr. XYZ, with all precautions and the treatment i told you. you will be alright. one thing you have to do is to not lose hope and you have to show your dedication to fight against this urinary tract infection.
Examiner: OK doctor. I will follow what you told me.
Candidate: In between your 3 months course if you develop fever and burning micturition again then you can come back.
Examiner: OK, Thank-you doctor.
Candidate: Wish you a speedy recovery.
